Logos
LVC Men's Club Volleyball Team
Seeing as our team's logo in past years has been created by a stock image--a flaming volleyball with a "don't mess with me" face--I knew that I wanted our new logo to be bold and unique. I decided to emphasize the Flying part of our Flying Dutchmen name and put some wings on the volleyball. Though it may not strike fear and terror into the hearts of our opponents, it is by far a better logo than we have had as a team.
LVC Student Programming Board
When my boss, Jenn Evans, asked me to come up with some sort of logo for the Student Programming Board I didn't have an idea in mind. I knew I wanted the logo to be playful, fun and comforting, like Student Programming Board itself. I don't quite remember when the idea of a grid came into play but once I decided to use nine squares I knew what I would put in them. LVC, of course had to go in three of the squares and SPB in the other three. The remaining three would be filled with visuals of the most common events that SPB provides for our campus--comedians, trips, and coffeehouse performances.
Greenblotter Literary Society
I had been in the Greenblotter Literary Society since freshman year but our organization lacked a logo. One weekend as I was working at the College Center Desk, and procrastinating via Photoshop, I decided to try my hand at creating one. The idea of this logo was to look classy but not geeky. Many would get the idea that a Literary Society is nothing but a bunch of English majors chatting about how Chaucer uses metaphors or how Wordsworth used locations. Sure, it may have been true, but I needed to make a logo that says otherwise. It's simple and a bit on the nose, but it works. The organization used it on some flyers and on the literary magazine itself.
Wig & Buckle Theatre Company
The president of our Wig & Buckle Theatre Company approached me to create a logo for his organization. He had a lot of ideas about what to put in it, so many that it seemed hard to create what he wanted without having it cluttered. After showing him my original design he told me to just "play around with it" saying, "I'm sure whatever you come up with will be better than I can." When I showed him this final design he loved it and the organization did as well. They've since used it at recruiting events.
Women Empowering Women Award
This logo was supposed to be put on the Women Empowering Women Award, however the awards ceremony never took place for one reason or another. I used the same Will & Grace-style font for the lettering. Though it's a bit cliche to use Rosie the Riveter, or in this case the silhouette of Rosie the Riveter, on an empowered women's logo, I feel that this was a good choice.
Orientation Weekend '08
Technically my first commission, this orientation logo is one of my better designs. Gene Kelly, my former boss, contacted me about making this logo for the first college weekend festivities. When I asked him what the theme would be he said, "Choose Dutchmen '08." He wanted it to look like a political button. So after Google searching some old political pins, I knew what I wanted to do. Since I love the Dutchmen logo so much, I had a hard time keeping it off the button. I think it works as a stark image to play off of the text heavy button.
